Bravo Issues Nationwide Pet Food Recall

Connecticut-based Bravo pet foods company has issued a nationwide recall for several of its pet food brands because of possible salmonella contamination. The Food and Drug Administration says the recall involves Raw Food Diet Bravo Turkey Blend for Dogs & Cats, Bravo Blends All-Natural Chicken Blend Diet for Dogs & Cats, Premium Turkey Formula Bravo Balance Raw Diet and Bravo Blends All Natural Chicken Blend Diet for Dogs & Cats.

Salmonella can affect animals eating the products and also poses health risks for humans handling the product. Pets infected with salmonella may be lethargic, have diarrhea, fever and vomiting. Some pets may only develop decreased appetite, fever and abdominal pain. Infected but otherwise healthy pets can infect other animals or humans. If your pet has consumed the recalled product and has these symptoms, please contact your veterinarian. (more…)


Podcast: World Rabies Day

September 28 has been designated World Rabies Day by the Global Alliance for Rabies Control to raise awareness about the still serious threat posed by the disease.

According to one estimate, half the world’s population is threatened by rabies, which globally kills as many as 70,000 people each year, mostly in poor and rural areas of Africa and Asia. India records about a third of the world’s annual rabies deaths and 40% of rabies victims are children under 15. (more…)

Pedigree Expands Dog Food Recall

The voluntary recall of Pedigree dog food because of possible contamination with small metal fragments has been expanded. Mars Petcare U-S says the recall now includes 55lb bags of Pedigree “Adult Complete Nutrition” dry dog food sold at Sam’s Club stores in Indiana, Michigan, and Ohio. The initial recall involved 22lb bags of the same brands shipped to Dollar General stores in four states

The expanded recall involves Sam’s Club stores in Muskegon, Jackson, Roseville and Saginaw, Michigan; Kokomo, Indiana in addition to Dayton and Holland, Ohio. The 55lb bags have the lot code 432E1KKM03 printed on the back of the bag next to the UPC bar code and a “best before” date of 8/7/15. The affected bags were sold at the Sam’s Club stores between August 14-30, 2014. (more…)
